For sexual health, our specialists provide screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Common STIs include chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, genital herpes, hepatitis B, and HIV. Breast cancer screening is an important part of women’s health and it is vital for the early detection of breast cancer. Age is the biggest risk factor in developing breast cancer. Around 75% of all breast cancers occur in women aged 50 years and above, so it is highly recommended to commence regular breast screening from the age of 50. However, those with a family history of breast cancer are encouraged to consider commencing screening earlier (from the age of 40).
Bayside Family Medical is committed to providing comfortable and discrete service by our health care specialists. If you have any concerns or if someone in your family has been recently diagnosed with breast cancer, please call us to book in for a breast cancer screening. Our healthcare experts will be able to assess your medical history and advise whether screening is right for you.
At Bayside Family Medical, we offer cervical screening tests (CST) for patients from the age of 25. A CST checks the health of your cervix, and the procedure is similar to a Pap smear test. For this test, our specialist GP takes a sample of cells from the cervix which looks for evidence of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection. HPV is a common infection, but if it is left untreated it can cause cell changes that can lead to several types of cancer. However, if no HPV is detected, then you will only need to retest every five years.
Whilst testing is recommended from the age of 25 and is due two years after your last Pap test. If you are under 25 and have concerns, speak to your GP at Bayside Family Medical at your next regular check-up to discuss whether cervical screening is right for you. Contact us today!
